| Bio: | Character: Jack Shephard Fandom: Lost PB: Matthew Fox Biography: Before Oceanic 815 crashed, Jack Shephard was a talented spinal surgeon working in LA. His father, Christian, was also a surgeon, until his alcoholism brought his career to an abrupt end. Jack’s relationship with his father was always strained – at one point, Jack suspected Christian of having an affair with his now ex-wife – but this destroyed it completely. When his father died of an alcohol related illness, Jack’s mother begged him to head to Australia and retrieve the body. Jack was in the process of transporting it back to LA when he climbed aboard the ill-fated Oceanic Flight 815. After the plane crash, an initially unwilling Jack became de facto leader of the survivors. Though the pressures of leadership and trying to be a hero – something his father once assured him he could never be – get to Jack at times, he is determined to do right by those who trust him and rely on him. After 66 days on the Island, Jack was captured by the mysterious Others, along with the Southern conman ‘Sawyer’ and criminal Kate Austen. He refuses to co-operate with his captors at first, even when they offer him his freedom in exchange for his medical expertise, but, when Kate begs him to operate on Benjamin Linus – apparent leader of the Others – in order to save Sawyer’s life, he reluctantly agrees. The one condition, however, was that he could leave the Island afterwards, since he was unable to bear the idea of Kate – the woman he loved – together with Sawyer. During the surgery, however, he cuts Ben’s kidney, and refuses to repair the damage until Kate was freed. She fled to the survivor’s camp, but returned as soon as she could to rescue Jack. The pair return to the main Island, along with Juliet, one of the Others, who Jack has formed a close relationship with during his captivity. When Juliet kissed Jack, Kate was extremely jealous, prompting Jack to confesses that he loves her. However, there was no time to dwell on this, as the survivors finally made contact with the outside world. Rescue was, apparently, imminent. I do not own the character of Jack Shephard, who is the property of JJ Abrams and the rest, or Matthew Fox, who plays him.
